Robyn's Story
The Regional Parent Advisory Committee for the Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) program is comprised of parents of children with disabilities.
These families have a current FSCD Agreement with Child and Family Services.
In addition, East Central Alberta Child and Family Services has two representatives on this regional committee.
OUR reason for being
The Parent Advisory Committee works with parents and Child and Family Services to fulfill the vision of the FSCD Act, which is to:
- Honour and respect the dignity and equal worth of children with disabilities
- Recognize and values the ability of families to care for and to promote the development of children with disabilities
- Acknowledge the value of family-centered support and services to empower and preserve families of children with disabilities;
- Recognize that the individual needs of children with disabilities are most effectively met through an integrated and multi-disciplinary approach
- Recognize the importance of facilitating the inclusion of children with disabilities in community life
WHAT we do
The Parent Advisory Committee offers leadership and advocates for families of children with disabilities by strengthening the system rather than attempting to resolve case-specific concerns.
We share information with other families and Child and Family Services to create consistency in FSCD supports and services.
We assist Child and Family Services by recommending strategies to its governing board.
We provide knowledge and expertise based on personal learning.
We help to promote a public awareness of the needs of families of children with disabilities.
We encourage collaboration between families and Child and Family Services.
We provide a regional voice to the Provincial Advisory Committee.
