Adoption

The adoption program actively connects children who are in the care of the government with families wanting to adopt a child. Adoption provides a child with a permanent family and life-long stability.

The children waiting for a forever home have diverse needs, many of them requiring special care and attention. Their specific challenges vary in degree and can include emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Prospective adoptive parents must meet the following requirements:

  • Alberta resident at the time of application, home assessment and placement
  • Any adult regardless of marital status may apply
  • Minimum age - 18
  • The child's best interests determine maximum age
  • Physically and mentally capable of meeting the child's needs

Adoptive applicants should be living within their means and have the resources to assume financial responsibilities involved in raising a child.
